florian meindl kick starts 2017 with a special four-track vinyl only release ‘colorful cage’. released on his own imprint flash recordings, the title track is taken from his forthcoming album ‘time illusion’. there is an exclusive vinyl edit of florian’s previously released foreboding techno track ‘nix charon’ and completing the ep are two further unique tracks ‘controlled pressure’ and ‘wild sequence 3’. as a dj, live performer, studio producer and sound designer, florian has over the years established an impressive producing base for himself in his berlin based riverside studio complex with an exciting hardware set up including modular systems, an analog mixing desk as well as classic machines like roland 909. in anticipation for the lp release in early april, florian has prepared a unique live set featuring a modular system, the korg minilogue, effect boxes and a 909 drum machine which were used in the creation of the album which he will be touring throughout 2017.

bastardo electrico is a techno night and label based in cork, ireland. it’s run by jamie behan, a veteran of the scene and one half of flexure alongside stephen mahoney. both have been djing since the mid-90’s, but flexure is a relatively new hardware-based project that sounds like a mashup of techno, acid, electro and chicago house. shadow puppets is flexure’s debut ep, a collection of unhinged machine bangers fans of tinfoil’s and on the hoof’s weirdness will likely appreciate.

next up creme organization is a return by regular artist lake haze. following his natural insight ep earlier in the year comes intergalactic communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. the portuguese artist known as goncalo salgado also please son labels like unknown to the unknown and is a real hardware master. at the gates ov futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. drexciyan aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. poseidon s dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. last of all, intergalactic communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic ep with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

shortly after aussteiger s successful debut on dub disco we knew exactly that we wanted our long time friends s&w on board for our second release. these guys have been a huge influence on us for a long time now. first we fell in love with their eclectic and powerful dj sets and when we heard the demos of these hardware nerds we were truly blown away. when we asked them to produce our second release they handcrafted this ep full of lovely analogue sounds for us. it surely stands in contrast to the first record and by that underlines exactly what dub disco is about: a journey through the vastness of electronic music.

luke sanger aka duke slammer has been a busy boy lately, from regular appearances at berlin s infamous panorama bar, to composing game soundtracks for ubisoft. in this installment luke dons his slammer hat for a holiday inspired selection aimed at the dance floor. pack the picnic: box jams takes inspiration from the vast norfolk sky and coastline. slammer takes to his hardware to jam out a strain of melodic techno that bear resemblance to acts like dmx krew and larry heard.

having opened feel my bicep up for the first time with their previous 12” from new zealand duo sandboards, bicep now welcome another new signing into the fold in the form of brassica. in an extension of a bond established on a civil music record released back in may of 2016 which saw bicep remix tears i cant afford brassica presents his time tunnel ep, a rich and varied 4-track record spanning acid, breaks and balmy house music. also included in the package is an edit from the sphinx and a remix from mysterious hardware fiend roy of the ravers who follows up 12inches on acid waxa and the centrifuge with a tough, tumbling take on the title track that caps off another solid addition to the irish dou s evolving imprint.

creepin in plays with the gray areas that exist between genres, contrasting with the clarity of the digital synths and over saturated analog drums. next up ineffekt is acid electro cut with thrashing percussion held together with 808 drums. red alert is the only track with a vocal. classic roland drums, deep sub and hardware synths mixed with the hypnotic vocal overlays make this one for the freaks. sky pager is slow cooked mid 90 s jacking business, the kind i m known for. 808 trash pile is an acid hammer of a cut with the drum and synth doing a maniacal game of call and response.

no bad days is back for round 2. ‘in the galleria’ slides in with dreamlike pads and a real euphoric feel to the whole track. just right for those balearic sunsets. second on the a side is ‘celestial bodies’ - a melodic freestyle jam that makes us feel like we’re down at the arcade playing ‘out run’ on a dusty mega drive.
over to the flip we start off with the title track, ‘lunar waves’ beginning with a tougher feel it hints at a hardware acid workout... but half way in roberto hits you with those dreamy pads again and just has us in his hands for that synth solo at the end! rounding off the ep perfectly is ‘when u come around’, a real ‘end of summer sitting down at the park with your mates’ kind of track...mmm...

tomahawk records is a new label that resists genres and hones in on the curation and sound of new artists. the label is keen to push undiscovered artists out into the periphery and give them the support to help grow as individuals.
the first release which is just round the corner is by the australian duo anthony fade, two hidden gems found on soundcloud. their process is a simple combination of hardware and software instruments and heavy use of ambient recordings and various samples. the ep titled “like that” contains four tracks of late summer vibes, dreamy vocals and a massive dose of energy getting ready for winter.

jamie roberts is no stranger to the more experimental tenets of the techno genre, and much of the british artist’s output of late has hinted at more leftfield leanings. a recent return to will bankhead’s trilogy tapes imprint saw a brace of meditative, post-detroit workouts - employing the same heady, hardware aesthetic as much of his work on ternesc - though at a drastically reduced tempo. it’s this same willingness to break down perceptions regarding his own music that marks walk type – roberts’ debut on the avian label, as a notable chapter in the artist’s discography.

rothmans turn to debutant producer dawn again, who strides onto the football-focused label with a confident grip of otherworldly hardware jams. as is customary on the label, the mood takes on a laid back approach to four to the floor grooves, with -coloured pens- kicking off proceedings on a soaring bed of psyched-out house optimism. while -the italian- may be moodier in its demeanour, it s still just as mellow in its delivery, capitalising on alluring wave synths and reverb swells to great effect. -plain of jars- takes a trippier direction with its bubbling fx and bongo-powered beatdown, and then -lavender- switches things up with a rolling breakbeat undercarriage and plush lead lines on top.

the first release on doble bilder is curated by the duo mørk, formed by emanuele pertoldi and francesco devincenti. pareidolia ep tells the phenomena from which it takes its name, that is a subconscious illusion that makes us see forms and recognizable objects in amorphous structures surrounding us. the ep evokes three pareidolia phenomena through sounds assembled live with hardware and recorded on tape.

this is the first project of a series of vinyl, which aim is to explore the deep link between man and analogic machines. every track is sampled by analogic hardware machines in order to keep the unique, distorted, boiling sound like only these instruments are able to do. this four-track release is the result of a dogged industrial groove fixed by the deepest techno side of the drum. it mesmerizes with the electric pulse of its eclectic riffs and the power of its raving sound.

impulsive and intuitive hardware house & techno from vancouver duo minimal violence aka ashlee luk & lida p. the five tracks on night gym soundtrack urban landscapes, textured synths, heavy kicks, and dense polyrhythms come together to form the duo s own brand of outsider house. citing influence from both minimal synth and chicago house, night gym arrives hot off the heels of the duo s self titled ep on dublin based first second label which closely examined the intersections that lay between punk and techno. recorded in february/march 2016 in the duo s home studio, the instinctual nature of live work flow plays an important role in the duo s creative process. utilizing hardware (sh-101, tr-606/505/707, waldorf blofeld, juno-60, dx-21, mpc1000) in addition to sourced samples with final compositions compiled and manipulated in ableton, night gym is an example of the duo s diverse interests and collaborative nature. the duo recruited visual support from chicago based graphic designer kevin mccaughey of nonporous for the distinct imagery of night gym. as well he designed the poster that comes in the 12- and screen printed a limited run of long sleeve t-shirts available through boot boys biz.

produced on an array of hardware in slim steve’s bedroom in rome, this is a refreshingly honest ep and takes x-kalay into somewhat nostalgic territory. 90’s ballads meet sampled italo percussion, skittish pitched up vocals pierce dangerous basslines and lung busting breakdowns give way to searching lasers in smoke filled rooms. english born italian steve langrish accomplishes all this with a level of effortlessness that belies his astonishingly young years.

crimes of the future is the kind of label you can trust, no matter who is at the controls. the same could be said for giallo disco, and certainly the two labels orbit a similar space for lurid soundtrack-inspired hardware jams from the italo age. vercetti technicolor is one half of the giallo team alongside antoni maiovvi, and here steps out with a perfectly bombastic range of compositions that revel in b-movie brilliance. -golden taurus- is the perfect slow-burner, those mono bass notes warming like no soft synth ever could, while -topaz fear- brings a more action-driven sequence into the mix. -death wish- too opts for a pumped up club scenario, while heinrich dressel smokes out -golden taurus- into a seedy slow-jam.

continuing their uncompromising fusions of artists new and old, contort yourself return with a punishing array of industrial thuggery from hardware manipulators you wouldn t take home to your mother. novacom were last seen on slumdiscs back in 2014 and here bring a fast and gnarly rhythmic tryst to bear before jk flesh do their own snagging dance with oppressive synths and drums twirling into a heavyweight whole. french brutalists le syndicat then dominate the b-side with their confrontational bastardisation of techno and industrial, making the perfect source material for ekman to get nasty with on his remix of -maximalist-.

his new material the ‘untold future’ is a hardware based, dynamic and solid four tracks ep which includes a dub version from ‘neo life’ by the young german newfound trp, who’s debut ep was released earlier this year by the lo-fi bearer lobster theremin.

john tejada and arian leviste are back on areal after their much celebrated release “reactance“. these guys are working for 25 years together meeting up weekly in the studio to try new things. they say themselves that it is their longest and most special collaboration. they use mainly hardware with an old school mind set that comes more from the early 80s nyc hip hop culture than anything else. early pioneers misusing gear and making the best of their limitations. their newest release “hysteresis“ comes along strongly functional for the club.

Æ is the third part of bjarki triptych of lps to be released this year. Æ is a particularly icelandic form, pronounced “i” in english, bjarki thinks it just looks good. here it is a selection of music that is at its core quite simple, with restrained instrumentation, made on hardware and features a selection of older works and the most recent produced just weeks ago. bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dance floor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrates very well. his music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

units and measurements is the collaborative project of christopher hreno, mathew jonson and colin de la plante. the project sees these long times friends and veteran producers exploring the limits of hardware based improvisation and deep synthesis and effects programing . documenting a single epic 24 hour session at jonson s mothership studio in berlin, this first release sees the trio exploring some of the headiest ambient and tunneling hypnotic techno to be found in any of their admittedly vast individual back catalogs. this release is without question a portrait of 3 masters of their craft at work, and quite unlike anything else you are likely to hear this year. units and measurements will be available in a double vinyl and digital formats on november 4th via blkrtz, with worldwide distribution via kompakt.

sebastian maschat a.k.a. stoneage kid has been around in the house music scene for about 15 years now: cult stoner house with extra produktionen , drummer in erlend oye s whitest boy alive and numerous other projects. stoneage kid is an hardware / mpc based act, with own vocals and a very distinctive electro pop aesthetique. his first ep on smile for a while creally sounds like captain comatose meeting isolee in some purple haze panic room. you ll find melancholic drum machine jams, some serious synths, lotsa vocoder and a lot of bassline-bumping. phillip lauer delivers a refreshingly cheesy remix with god singing solo and the holy ghost on drums just as expected. hang on to a dream is quite a special tune, written and sung by german indie veteran otto von bismarck. this remix version is really something for intimate connoiseurs of both pop and house music.

chord memory! the hymn for the widely used feature in 80s hardware synthesizers got some individual rewiring done. if ten fingers ain’t enough hyboid uses his galactic memory for punchy disco purposes while robyrt hecht reaches for a swinging pivot memory to sweep and swipe your electro habits. on the other hand milium likes the exposed wires of his mutiny memory to revolt whereas cco simulates his natural echoic memory with floating acid sparks. completing the mechanical rewiring the duo nachtzug added delicate software to execute the algorithms and installed a memory loss button, if you are in need of a reset.
